About
Building community and providing support with you in mind.
Lifting up community birthworkers and providing support with you in mind.
We are a collective of birthworkers dedicated to serve, uplift, and empower BIPOC families in making informed decisions from pre-conception to postpartum and beyond! Our goal is to celebrate the beauty and strength of growing a family in Indianapolis by investing in their well-being. IMBC strives to nurture positive birth experiences, educate families in our communities, and support healthy transitions into parenthood.
This is support made with you in mind!
In January 2023, Courtney Hall brought her idea to a reality by getting local doulas of color together in order to create bonds and establish business relationships. All starting from a pitch-in, birthworkers from around the city came together soley to connect with one another and spread awareness about doulas of color in our city. We found that we all believe that Black & Brown families deserve the right to experience positive birth outcomes, make informed decisions, feel empowered during labor, and receive adequate postpartum care. This was enough for us to move forward in efforts to be a part of positive change in Indianapolis. After the help of many doulas and the assistance of Co-Founders Kristina Garcia, Brittany Veal, and Leah Johnson, Indy Melanated Birthworker Collective (IMBC) was born!
Our goal is to unify birthworkers of color, creating a space for us to network, build relationships within the collective and perinatal providers around Indianapolis, enhance our skillset by attending professional development, and support our community's needs together as a unit.
Since coming together, IMBC has hosted a Doula Self Care & Spa Day, attended Melanin in May, Indy's Juneteenth at Military Park, Nourish To Flourish, CAFE's Women's Health Fair, Melamama's Community Resource Fair, and Mom Cave's Community Baby Shower. IMBC meets monthly amongst members to touch base, plans to host professional development workshops for doulas within and outside of the collective, and create workshops for new and expecting families centered around perinatal topics.
